In this episode, Dr. Erin Rotheram-Fuller speaks with Melanie Isaacs, founder and Chief Inclusion Officer of Pal Experiences, a national network of businesses and public venues committed to welcoming families impacted by autism and other developmental disabilities. Inspired by a chance encounter with a father and son who felt unable to visit an aquarium because of autism, Melanie shifted her career path from marine biology to accessibility and inclusion. She shares how Pal Experiences partners with destinations, restaurants, healthcare settings, sports venues, and cultural institutions to reduce barriers through social stories, sensory supports, communication tools, and staff training.
The conversation highlights the importance of preparation, universal design, and community partnerships in creating spaces where everyone can participate, belong, and enjoy meaningful experiences together.
